I have blogged on this before.
But, I have been challenged recently on a different blogger’s site.
Why is welfare destroying the black family? Yes, welfare is also destroying poor white families as well. Because it encourages fatherlessness – but not in the way the progressives tell you it does ….
Welfare economically enslaves people. Before Welfare in 1965, poverty had dropped greatly in the US. With Welfare, it went the other way.
What other people have said about fatherlessness.
Allen West wrote. 72% of black children born out of wedlock.
The President alluded to this in his Hyde Park Chicago Speech, last year. During this speech, his response to the problem he saw was more expensive education to make up for fathers being absent from their families.
Even though he admitted he HAD been an activist with that community before most of the children were born. So, if ‘education’ was the solution, wouldn’t that have already been tried by his activism in that community?
Didn’t he educate them?
During this Father’s Day speech he mentioned the statistics behind fatherless homes – this applies to whites, blacks, and latino homes.
We know the statistics – that children who grow up without a father are five times more likely to live in poverty and commit crime; nine times more likely to drop out of schools and twenty times more likely to end up in prison. They are more likely to have behavioral problems, or run away from home, or become teenage parents themselves. And the foundations of our community are weaker because of it.
Sadly, too many people behind the progressive agenda forget the statistics when they want to make an argument for something …. We need to fix our families.
That will require God, culture, and jobs …. IMHO.
In 1965, Daniel Patrick Moynihan wrote “The Negro Family: A Case for National Action.” At the time, 25 percent of blacks children were born out of wedlock, a number Moynihan called alarming. Fast forward to the present, 72 percent of black children are now born out of wedlock. In fact, 36 percent of white children are born out of wedlock. Of Hispanic children, 53 percent are born outside of marriage.
Is there any doubt that Welfare has not helped poor white or black families?
As some of these articles pointed out, marriage and work are the two greatest reasons people pull out of poverty. And welfare discourages both by penalizing people who try to get out of the ‘system.’
Maybe it is time to put fathers back into families?
What do you think?
