Do not attempt this at home, unless you are a crazy Texan.
I have been involved in a fight with a 6′ 6″ Alligator Gar, and I can tell you, even a worn out gar can fight. Ours was on the trot-line overnight and was already tired when we began our fight.
How do you cut one open?
You start at the anus with limb shears (3′ foot long handles).
That is what they call them, ‘Alligator Gars.’
Them things are tough. But, if you cook them right, they are pretty good.
Don’t cook them right, and all you got was ‘fish bait.’
